Say Happy Founders day in the KT Forums.
On February 11th of 1961 Omicron Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi National Fraternity was founded at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, then called North Adams State College.
In the spring of 1960, Tony DiSalvo of Beta Chapter became acquainted with Tony Botto and Tony
Brescia, both of Massachusetts State College at North Adams. Mr. Botto and Mr. Brescia both expressed a willingness to begin a fraternity at North Adams and Mr. DiSalvo felt that Kappa Delta Phi would be willing to help establish a chapter there. During the summer of 1960 both Tony Botto and Tony Brescia spoke with Tony DiSalvo and some early plans were made.
As the first semester of 1960-61 term unfolded, interest was created at the college and others became involved in the beginning of our local chapter at North Adams. Garret Collins was especially helpful in stirring interest and in helping to organize the chapter. Dr. Joll, National Organizer, personally came up and spoke to a group of interested men. His discussion helped us a great deal and by December a local chapter had been created. Mr. Brescia, making several trips to Boston, met with National officers in hopes of an early installation of North Adams as a National Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi. The constitution of North Adams was accepted by the National at the December 1960 meeting.Operating under this constitution, 23 members were brought into the chapter and a slate of officers was elected. Mr. Robert Barden was selected as faculty advisor. A tentative date for installation was set at the January meeting of the National by Garret Collins, acting as our representative. The North Adams chapter became the 15th chapter (Omicron) of Kappa Delta Phi, February 11, 1961.

Kappa Delta Phi National Affiliated Sorority, Kappa Omicron Chapter at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, participated in The Fall Foliage Parade on Sunday Oct. 4th, one of the Berkshire’s biggest parades, this year the theme was “Salute to Sports’ Fans” and KO showed their black and gold spirit to the fullest.
The parade conjugated national marching teams, local sport themes, recreational clubs and many other important organizations not only from the Berkshires but from outer states as well. It was a local televised event in which KO appeared proudly saluting to its fans. The Parade was populated by the entire town of North Adams, as they aligned along the streets to watch the entertaining event. This is the first time in many years since KO was able to participate, many townies were happy to see them back in the community doing good deeds. It was an overwhelming feeling of excitement in which KO proudly showed everyone that true spirit never dies.

Sisters Corinne Cardin, Jocelyn Lampiasi, Shelley Donovan, Jeanette Won, Shyreen Michaud, Deanna Larrabee, Samantha Kone and Johanna Brito at the Wal-Mart parking lot getting ready to march the parade!

Bill Boyden, Brother of Omicron Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts has returned home from the war. The news below is written by his blood sister, Kim Boyden, who is a sister of Kappa Omicron, of Kappa Delta Phi National Affiliated at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
Sgt Bill Boyden USAF returned home on May 16th 2007 after serving bravely in Iraq. He landed at Logan Airport after hours of delays due to weather and was greeted by his loving wife Beatrice and 3 of his 5 children, Aislin, Ellie and Riley. Also on hand to greet him were his parents, Bill and Joan, his sister Kim, her husband David and their children CJ & Justin. It was an emotional reunion with hugs, kisses and tears freely flowing.
Sgt Boyden left to serve September 2006. After arriving in Iraq, he was stationed in Tikrit. While in Tikrit, he was assigned to help train the new Iraqi police forces. Only the lowest level police are trained to the US armed forces and due to the civil unrest, they are always a target for insurgents. This was tough duty!
Thankfully, he left Iraq and spent a short amount of time in Afghanistan, where he received his most dangerous wound, a sunburn! He arrive a Logan Airport in his uniform and a bright red face!
Bill has spent over 20 years in the military starting at age 17 in the Army Reserves. One tour brought him to active duty in Berlin Germany. He was there and working during the fall of the wall. He left active duty in the late 90′s but was called up as a National Guardsman after 9/11. He was stationed at Hanscomb AFB in Massachusetts and the air force was so impressed with his work, they asked him to join the unit. His last assignment prior Iraq was in San Antonio Texas where he trained new troops prior to them leaving for the desert.
Welcome home Brother Boyden and thank you for your service and defending the freedoms that we enjoy.
