Todd Ager’s son has just become an Eagle Scout. Christopher Alan Ager sent care packages to the troops in Iraq, specifically a unit that had been commanded by Cpt Michael Denehy, who is also a Gamma Chapter Brother. Brother Cpt Michael Denehy recently came home.

Brother Jack Carey was killed in an accident in Colorado on Friday July 17th. He was hit by a pickup while “mountain biking” on a road in the mountains of Colorado. He was a celebrity in Telluride for many years and was well known.
He was the pledgemaster for my class in March of 1970 at 69 Davis Street. Army veteran, KSC grad, HS teacher, husband, straight as an arrow. He moved to Colorado to ski. Became a world class hang glider pilot among other things. God rest his soul.

Thirty-year local “Captain” Jack Carey was killed on Friday afternoon atop Lizard Head Pass while biking when he strayed from his lane and into traffic. He was 64 years old.
San Miguel County Sheriff Bill Masters said Carey was cycling with his wife, Monica, on Friday afternoon. Carey turned around to look at Monica and drifted into the path of a truck coming up behind him, Masters said.
He was killed within “seconds,” according to San Miguel County Coroner Bob Dempsey. The accident occurred around 1 p.m.
The longtime and long-bearded local with a chowder-thick New England accent made his home high up in Ophir, where he’d ski and hike the peaks ringing the valley. He leaves behind Monica and his daughter, Jill Curtis, of Salt Lake City.
But in stories across town on Thursday, the Captain lived on. He was a hang-gliding champion and dyed-in-the-wool-sock skier. Someone who poached first chairs of the season and tended a simple garden.
“Anybody who’s been here for any amount of time knew Jack,” Masters said. “He was a local character.”
The Colorado State Patrol was investigating the scene all afternoon on Friday, but the agency’s accident report is not expected until Monday. …

Alumni Brother Bob Camirand of Kappa Delta Phi, Gamma Chapter at Keene State College has retired after 15 years as head football coach at Concord, New Hampshire High School where he was their all time winningest coach.
Brother Camirand guided the Crimson Tide to three Division I championship games and the Division I title in 2000. Concord finished above the .500-mark in 10 of his 15 seasons.
Brother Camirand, who retired from teaching two years ago and thoughts of the day he’d step down from the football post became more prevalent. So after the Tide won its season finale last fall, wrapping up its 10th winning season in Brother Camirand’s 15 years at the helm, he left as the program’s all-time winningest coach, with an 86-68 record.
“I’d been doing it for 37 years, and I’m looking forward to a fall where I’m not worried about who’s coming out, about who’s coming back, how to fund raise, how to defend …” Brother Camirand said. “If I want to go see family on a Sunday, I don’t have to come back and look at film for five or six hours afterward.”
Congratulations to our sisters @ Kappa Gamma Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi National Affiliated Sorority @ Keene State College. They took top honors for all Greeks on the colleges “Greek Assessment.”
Sister Stephanie Roy explains “each Greek Chapter at Keene State College has to submit a report to the school describing what our goals were for the year, what we did for philanthropy, fundraising, and individual sister’s accomplishments. Our president from last year, Meghan McMannus, put together the report on Kappa Gamma Chapter. We have just received the news that she has gotten our chapter the top prize, for the report”
