Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Last year I participated in my first Triathlon with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training. Their mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. I ran the Hyannis Sprint Triathlon with TNT, raising over $3,000 for the Society. I was honored to have Jamie and Zanna Mangini join me at the finish line with their son, Jordan and daughter, Jenna. I trained because Jenna had been diagnosed with leukemia at just a few months old. Jenna battled for just over a year, but tragically left us this past December. Her short life touched many others. In her memory I will be training for another Triathlon. This time I will be raising the bar.
On September 14th I will be competing in the Nation’s Triathlon in Washington D.C. this event is a little longer than the Sprint I did last year. This is an Olympic distance Tri. I start with a .93 mile swim, then a 24.8 mile bike ride and finish with a 6.2 mile run. Just to make things interesting I dislocated my knee back in January. I was in a leg brace for seven weeks and have worked hard to get back into shape. This will still be a challenge, but I’ve learned the meaning of “No pain, no gain.” And I have met some really inspirational people. Some cancer survivors, some whose lives have been touched by cancer, and some who just want to make a difference.
This last year I’ve seen what you might think is a little thing can mean to someone. I’ve seen how cancer can turn a family upside down and I’d like your help in making things a little better. My goal this time around is to raise $3,500.00. Donations need to be received by July 15th. Every little bit helps. Thank you so much for your support. I know that it means a lot to a Brother and a Sister who have been through one of the worst things anyone can face.
Please make checks payable to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and send using the enclosed envelope to:
