Categories: Kappa Delta Phi National Affiliated Sorority News Comments: 0

On Feb. 27, two sisters of the Kappa Alpha Iota Chapter were inducted into the Order of Omega at Shippensburg University.

The two sisters, Kate Bentley and Christine Hawkins, were selected for the organization based on their leadership and involvement in Greek life on Shippensburg’s campus.

Bentley is currently KAI’s sergeant-at-arms and has helped keep order in the chapter while maintaining an outstanding GPA.

Hawkins has been a vital member of KAI’s executive board for two years. She is the current president of KAI and has held two other executive board positions: affiliate educator and secretary.

Last semester, another sister, Lauren McClure, was inducted into Order of Omega. McClure has served as vice president and is currently chaplain/historian.

The Order of Omega is an honors organization that recognizes leaders in Greek life who are involved with their organization and who excel at academics.

    Celebrating 40 Years of Sisterhood

    by
Sister Lauren Gardner, Kappa Sigma Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi NAS, SPring 1995

    for the Orderofthecrow.org

Pledging Kappa Sigma 14 years ago was one of the best things I ever did. I have met some of the most interesting and loveliest women on the planet. Our sorority has women of all different backgrounds, colors, shapes, sizes, you name it. Although we are all unique in our own way, we still have our sorority in common. I am so proud of our organization, and was therefore really excited when we had the chance to celebrate at our 40th Anniversary party.

Taking place on September 26th at the Highlander Inn in “Manchegas” (aka Manchester, NH) at 7 pm, sisters in their 20′s up into their 60′s all co-mingled and reminisced. It was such a memorable evening. A slide show played for the duration, and a DJ played hits old and new. There was a raffle to help the actives as well as charity. Yellow roses were given to the oldest and youngest sister in attendance, as well as who traveled the farthest. It was like being at a wedding reception- there was dancing and joking, and for most of us, it was just like old times and we had never skipped a beat. The party ended at midnight, but unofficially carried on until the wee hours in true-Kappa fashion.

For those who couldn’t make the event, they were very much missed. About 60-some odd sisters (and some men scattered here and there) were in attendance, but over the years almost four hundred women have passed through the doors…that’s a lot of sisters! We had such a great time with all of our sisters and look forward to our next reunion during Homecoming/Alumni Day in October.

This was a poem that I wrote and framed to give at the raffle…I think it sums up what all of us feel being part of Kappa:

    Kappa Sigma Phi 40th Anniversary

Kappa’s celebrating 40 years? “Holy Crow!”

Where did all the time seem to go?

We’ve grown up through laughter, tears and smiles

Being a sister has made our lives more worthwhile

We remember the meaning behind black and gold

Let’s toast to our sisters, both the young and the old

Each and every time we see a single yellow rose

Our hearts swell inside with pride inside, because we know-

Sisterhood is the bond that brought us all together

May The Spirit Never Die; may we live on forever!

    -Lauren Gardner, Spring ’95
