KappaTalk members, actives and alumni, Brothers from Kappa Delta Phi and Sisters from Kappa Delta Phi National Affiliated Sorority perform community service and have a social.
It was a hot time at the Old Town YMCA.

The KT Meet of `08 brought 30 brothers and sisters from 15 chapters across New England to Old Town, Maine for a large scale philanthropy event that involved giving a fresh coat of paint to several of the YMCA’s large meeting rooms.

Members of Kappa Delta Phi, Inc. and Kappa Delta Phi, NAS took part in the event, held on Sept. 27.

“These rooms encompass the child care program of the YMCA,” said Taryn Beaumont of Kappa Lambda chapter, who organized the project with Samm Stewart of Kappa Eta chapter. “Brothers and sisters devoted their time and energy to this project throughout the day, climbing on ladders and painting everything from walls to bulletin boards to cubbies to make the YMCA look brand new.”

Said Samm: “As brothers and sisters of Kappa Delta Phi, Inc and Kappa Delta Phi, NAS, we pride ourselves on performing philanthropy events such as these, as it is the foundational element on which our organization is built.”

The event was followed by a social event hosted by Jennifer “Veggie” D’Appollonio at her home in Howland, ME. A great time was had by all!

A warm thanks is also extended to YMCA of Old Town for allowing us into their home and supporting us in this project.

Kappa Delta Phi National Affiliated Sorority, Kappa Omicron Chapter at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, participated in The Fall Foliage Parade on Sunday Oct. 4th, one of the Berkshire’s biggest parades, this year the theme was “Salute to Sports’ Fans” and KO showed their black and gold spirit to the fullest.

The parade conjugated national marching teams, local sport themes, recreational clubs and many other important organizations not only from the Berkshires but from outer states as well. It was a local televised event in which KO appeared proudly saluting to its fans. The Parade was populated by the entire town of North Adams, as they aligned along the streets to watch the entertaining event. This is the first time in many years since KO was able to participate, many townies were happy to see them back in the community doing good deeds. It was an overwhelming feeling of excitement in which KO proudly showed everyone that true spirit never dies.

It is with deep regret and sorrow that we inform you of the death of Kappa Delta Phi National Affiliated Sorority, Kappa Tau Chapter Sister Robin ( Fisher) Shawlinski.

    http://miva.burlingtonfreepress.com/miva/cgi-bin/miva?obitsearch2.mv

ROBIN ANN (FISHER) SHAWLINSKI Robin Ann (Fisher) Shawlinski, age 40, of Fort Belvoir, Va., passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 10, 2008, after a 10-month battle with cancer. She was born in Burlington in 1968, and attended St. Joseph Elementary and Rice Memorial High School. She earned her degree in Journalism at Castleton College.

Later she enlisted in the United States Army and was a journalist for 8 years for several U.S. Army newspapers while stationed at Newport News, Va.; Panama and Ft Benning, Ga. Robin is survived by her loving husband, SGM Robert Shawlinski, and children Sean, age 13, Rachel, age 11 and Shane, age 7. She leaves her parents, John and Kathleen (Desany) Fisher of Burlington; her sisters, brothers and spouses, Suzanne and LTC John Boyd of Huntington, Lynn and Jason Smiley of Milton, John and Nicole (Gendreau) Fisher of Waterbury, WO1 Eric Fisher of Colchester, Elizabeth and Brett Tyler of Eagle Mountain, Utah, and James Fisher and fiancée Erin Carlson of Burlington; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Robin is survived by her mother-in-law, Kathleen Shawlinski of East Brunswick, N.J.; and her brothersin-law and spouses, Scott and Hope Shawlinski, and David and Barbara Shawlinski of Toms River, N.J.; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father-in-law Frederic Shawlinski of Little Ferry, N.J. Robin married her husband Robert Shawlinski on Sept. 8, 1994, and they served and lived at many Army installations including Panama, Fort Benning, Ga.; West Point, N.Y.; Tacoma, Wash.; Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Sergeants Major Academy at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas and the U.S. Army HRC; Alexandria, Va.

Robin always approached life with gusto and in her own way. She wasn’t afraid to rock the boat when necessary – to stand up for her convictions and defend what she thought was right. She had a lot of strength and fight in her to handle the obstacles that were thrown her way. At the same time, you would find that she also had a love to share with her family and friends. She applied both her strength and love to steering her family through the rigors of military life. In March 2007, the Sustainment Command at Schofield Barracks Hawaii awarded the Dr. Mary E. Walker Award to Robin for demonstrating dedicated and exemplary volunteerism as an outstanding military spouse, improving the quality of life for soldiers and their families. During the past year she was an active member of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy “Class of 58” wives group at Ft. Bliss. Even during her cancer treatments she continued to participate in the classes and social events with the group. Visiting hours will be on Friday, Oct. 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., in the Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria, Va. Funeral services celebrating the life of Robin will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m., in Woodlawn Chapel, Fort Belvoir, Va. Interment will be at Arlington Cemetery in Virginia on Oct. 22. There will be a memorial service celebrating her life in St. Joseph CoCathedral, 20 Allen St., Burlington, Vt., on Saturday Oct. 25, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to Robin’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at http://stj.convio. net/goto/robin_shawlinski or 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.

On October 13th, 2008. Alpha Alpha Chapter volunteered time and knowledge at the annual Children’s Water Festival at the University of Maine at Orono.

The Brothers not only provided guidance around the campus for the activities throughout the day, but also offered some insight for the activities in which they were involved with. The activities were primarily based upon the children’s knowledge of water, ecosystems, and the effects that humans have on the environment.

The children were delighted to have the Brothers as their guides, asking many questions about college life and other topics of interest throughout the day.

The Brothers were thanked and welcomed back for next year’s Water Festival, in hopes that they would again contribute their time to furthering the education of Maine’s youth.

More than 4,000 men, women, and children gather in downtown Bangor on September 21. Among these racers were four Kappa Delta Phi Brothers from Lambda chapter at Husson University..Brothers Jacob King, Chris Stevenson, Eric Morrow, and Seth Cleaves laced up their running shoes and joined thousands of other racers to help raise money in hopes to find a cure for breast cancer. The race was a great success with over $200,000 being raised for the cure. This was a very fun philanthropy and allowed the brothers to show of their black and gold colors (with some pink thrown in there too). It was a great event and hopefully it will continue to grow in years to come.
