    Brother John Dakin will be inducted into the UMPI Hall of Fame on saturday at UMPI. Dakin became a Brother of Kappa Delta Phi, Mu Chapter at UMaine Presque Isle in 1959.

    Dakin, a member of the Class of 1962, lettered in basketball and baseball at the former Aroostook State Teachers College. He was among the school’s first graduates with a degree in health, physical education and recreation.

    Dakin taught at and coached for three years at Westbrook High School, then in 1967 began a long career at Southern Maine Community College in South Portland. He served as the school’s director of athletics, baseball coach and basketball coach before retiring in 2002.

    His basketball teams compiled a 199-56 overall record, while his baseball squads went 113-85, including seven championships. Dakin also held several key conference and committee posts.

    He resides in Florida with his wife Stephanie.

    Kappa Delta Phi Brother Agustin "Tino" FigueroaWestbrook - Brother of Kappa Delta Phi, Chi Chapter at Southern New Hampshire University, Agustin “Tino” Figueroa, 29, a resident of Allen Aveue in Portland, died early Saturday morning as a result of a motorcycle accident on Warren Avenue.

    He was born Oct. 15, 1977, in Hartford, Conn., the son of Tomas and Amneris (Hernandez) Figueroa. Tino was a graduate of Monmouth Academy and continued his education in earning his bachelor’s in business administration at New Hampshire College. He was a member of Kappa Delta Phi Fraternity while he was in college, he also held several offices. He was employed by Portland Marketing Group in Portland. He enjoyed playing baseball, he played in Little League, at Monmouth Academy and at New Hampshire College. He also enjoyed playing pool, animals, fishing, skiing and the outdoors.

    He is survived by his parents, Tomas and Amneris Figueroa of Monmouth; two brothers, Jose Vega of Monmouth (Brother of Kappa Delta Phi, Lambda Chapter at Husson College), and Tommy Figueroa of Puerto Rico; nieces and nephews, Xavier J. Vega, Rhetta M. Vega and Isaac R. Vega.

    He will be sadly missed by his friends and family.
