Bill Boyden, Brother of Omicron Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts has returned home from the war. The news below is written by his blood sister, Kim Boyden, who is a sister of Kappa Omicron, of Kappa Delta Phi National Affiliated at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
Sgt Bill Boyden USAF returned home on May 16th 2007 after serving bravely in Iraq. He landed at Logan Airport after hours of delays due to weather and was greeted by his loving wife Beatrice and 3 of his 5 children, Aislin, Ellie and Riley. Also on hand to greet him were his parents, Bill and Joan, his sister Kim, her husband David and their children CJ & Justin. It was an emotional reunion with hugs, kisses and tears freely flowing.
Sgt Boyden left to serve September 2006. After arriving in Iraq, he was stationed in Tikrit. While in Tikrit, he was assigned to help train the new Iraqi police forces. Only the lowest level police are trained to the US armed forces and due to the civil unrest, they are always a target for insurgents. This was tough duty!
Thankfully, he left Iraq and spent a short amount of time in Afghanistan, where he received his most dangerous wound, a sunburn! He arrive a Logan Airport in his uniform and a bright red face!
Bill has spent over 20 years in the military starting at age 17 in the Army Reserves. One tour brought him to active duty in Berlin Germany. He was there and working during the fall of the wall. He left active duty in the late 90’s but was called up as a National Guardsman after 9/11. He was stationed at Hanscomb AFB in Massachusetts and the air force was so impressed with his work, they asked him to join the unit. His last assignment prior Iraq was in San Antonio Texas where he trained new troops prior to them leaving for the desert.
Welcome home Brother Boyden and thank you for your service and defending the freedoms that we enjoy.
